In Memoriam 2
This second part of the 2001 game tries to take the graphic adventures’ world to the next level, in the same way its predecessor did. Just like before, we have to discover and uncover the clues the Phoenix leaves us ?a dangerous psychopath that threatens to kill two hostages. In this DVD addressed to ICPA ?organization we work for? there are different strategy games to unravel mysteries. Besides, the killer will send us messages to our Hotmail, and we will even use Google to look for information. ICPA believes you will be able to do the puzzle in the disk in order to stop the Phoenix.
In Memoriam is similar to the games that experiment on CD ROM format in the mid- 90’s. Even though this proposal did not last in time, due to its high production cost, representative titles like Gabriel Knight and the version of the novel Alberta Williams Phantasmagoria remained. Except The X Files video game, which included 10 CDs and it was a kind of mixture between interactive game and graphic adventure, there was no other big game except for In Memoriam, which included real time investigation through the Internet and other very creative novelties. In the sequel, the frontiers of the original game are expanded and its own mould is broken.
The plot of this terror story takes place in an abandoned mansion in the outskirts of a rural town in England. We are the writer Michael Futate, who travels to the Blackwood’s house in order to get inspired to write his next book. However, due to the strange events that happen every day he realizes he is not alone, and that the ancient secrets of the house become alive.
The game was created by the Argentinean company Nucleosys, which up to last year was considered a revelation within the developers’ world. Its creators, Agustín Cordes and Alejandro Graziani, put their products in the worldwide market without having a millionaire budget and trusting their intuition. As it also happens in the movies, sometimes independent productions are those with the greatest quality and creativity, as opposed to the big corporate monsters that are created to be sold.
It is obvious that Scratches was created carefully and with dedication. Every single detail was taken into account as regards the story and all the graphics ?with background sound? they create the right environment for this type of game.
Sam & Max episode 1: Culture Shock
When the new version of the classic Full Throttle was cancelled, Lucas Arts gave the impression that it will no longer finance graphic adventures. Everything seemed to indicate that Sam & Max ?artist Steve Purcell’s characters? would be as lucky. Six months after the termination, George Lucas’ company confirmed the suspicion ?the new game of the famous detectives would be cancelled as well. This time, fans filled the Lucas Arts’ Web page with complaints, until finally the company Telltale Games bought the rights to produce the adventure. As months went by, Telltale informed that the product would be called Bone, and that it would be a complete series of adventures of Sam & Max and it would be divided into episodes. The other piece of news was that these episodes could be bought on the Internet at reduced prices, and separately. This new game did not play well with fans, who were used to play a game as a whole. Due to this, the company announced that once all the episodes were for sale, they would release a DVD with the whole season.
Leaving aside criticism and mishaps, this first issue of Sam & Max conforms to all the requirements to create a legend.
